The first movie which i saw thrice

I have always grown up watching Bollywood and Hollywood movies.Every  saturday after school i still remember rushing back to my home just in time to catch up with an Action based Hollywood movie in the afternoon and a Bollywood blockbuster in late night hours. But for the first time in my life i went to a movie in a theater for three times in a row that too not a Bollywood or Hollywood film but a regional movie which i generally avoid(Most of them have the same themes- love, college life and sentiments).

This movie i went to was all about a person who is  deeply attached to his best friend from his childhood. Unfortunately  both of the friends fall for a same girl. The person Arya who does not want to loose his friendship makes a number of sacrifices for his friend from his early childhood days

The dance steps performed by allu arjun are the best i have ever seen, songs are trendy- A mix of Indian and western hip hop.

Torn between the affection for his best friend and girl on whom he has a crush its an excellent movie to boot.I love it

Diwali.....

It was Dusshera a few weeks back and even before getting rid of all the excess  fat i gained by having a frequent supply of  sweets and other eatables , Diwali came along. This festival provided another reason to continue with my not so healthy diet.(I for one wouldn't mind).Compared to last year's diwali this year was a more subdued affair. The reasons were quite obvious.......  recession, spiraling costs..One had to think twice before even buying any crackers this time as it would cut deep in to one's pocket.I had the opportunity to spend quality time with my family ,my sister was home for the weekend to join in the occasion. But this year celebrating diwali was more mechanical,i had no interest whatsoever  to treat my self with burning crackers......only constant nudging and cajoling by my mother forced me to do so.I was perhaps a bit uncertain about my future this time and too preoccupied to have any thoughts of entertainment.I hope that next year would be a more  cheerful one.

A trip down memory lane

I had a good opportunity of meeting my beloved principal Ms Hemalatha pradhan after a long gap of seven years. After leaving my school i never got an opportunity to meet her.I also had a feeling og meeting her only if i had achieved something worthwhile  in my life.A senior of mine convinced that it would be nice to visit our teacher and thank them for what they had given to us.I went to her home with an expectation  that she would forgive me for not visiting so long....

She was the person who influenced me a lot into reading books, participating in extra curricular activities and gave me a childhood which was fun and frolic.

It was an emotional trip both for meand my senior soumya. My princpal was so happy on seeing us both that we had very lengthy conversations on our schooling days and how her discipline and teaching helped us to achieve what we are right now.She took the opportunity and suggested that we can have a get together of sorts-bringing all my friends, seniors and juniors for a day and share their wonderful experiences they had with the school.I am planning to pen a book about my wonderful time at Tiny tots and ask my friends to do the same in the future very soon. This would be my guru dakshina to my school and my Headmistress.

Remembering my Guru's

September the 5th in India is celebrated as teachers day.A day in remembrance of  the teachers who shape our life and play an important role  in moulding a  student in to a model citizen. Some times teachers are our friends, our guides or our mentors who help us to get on with our studies with their support. There are many such people in my childhood i remember very well.People who have trained me to speak various languages, who nurtured my mind so that I would always think positively and take the right decisions.

My faculty for datawarehousing and artificial intelligence

My special thanks goes to my headmistress Hemalatha Pradhan, who made us to realise the importance of the English language and use it as a tool to build relations across various spectrum's of the society.Teachers who have dedicated their lives in spreading the knowledge they posses and bringing up the cognizants of tomoro in today's children should never be forgotten.

Gone are the days
When the school reopened in June,
And we settled in our new desks and benches.

Gone are the days
When we wanted two Sundays and no Mondays, yet
Managed to line up daily for the morning prayers.

Gone are the days
When we chased one another in the corridors in Intervals,
And returned to the classrooms drenched in sweat.

Gone are the days
When a single P.T. and games period in the week's Time Table, Was awaited more
eagerly than the monsoons.

Gone are the days
Of fights but no conspiracies,
Of Competitions but seldom jealousy.

Gone are the days
Of Sports Day, and the annual School Day,
And the one-month long preparations for them.

Gone are the days
Of the stressful Quarterly, Half Yearly and Annual Exams,
And the most enjoyed holidays after them.

Gone are the days
We learnt, we enjoyed, we played, we won, we lost, We laughed, we cried,
we fought, we thought.

Gone are the days
With so much fun in them, so many friends,
So much experience

A pleasant Surprise!

The thing i have been waiting for from the past 3 months has finally happened. It rained!!(no big deal)but it was a deluge.

DSC01671Not that i am complaining about it but its supposed to be the monson season now and it has been a disaster this year. There are almost drought conditions prevailing in my area and boy! this was totally unexpected .

DSC01654It was for a while that i could fully realise what was happening because i was sceptical it would fizzle out.On the contrary it went from strength to strength and the rain came down in torrents with  strong winds whipping up leaves and spraying water allaround. The next thing i did was to rush inside and grab my camera and started clicking away like mad.I didnt know why i did that may be because i wanted this to happen for many days now?

DSC01645It was only a matter of time before my dog began to jump about in the water...may be it was relishing the moment too..i had to run behind it and persuade it to ocme back in the house....but not before being drenched.

Progress through processors....

I was just going through some fan sites today when i noticed this application.Called progress through processors,Intel's initiative uses Idle time of CPU'S around the world who are connected to the gridrepublic which also runs various other not for profit initatives like climate control, rosetta home and reasearch for malaria in sub saharan africa

intel3

This initiative excited  me and i decided to see how the whole system works. After logging into facebook and downloading the app,The software utilizes idle time of the CPU.

intel2

A neat interface gives information on diskusage, resource statistics and available projects which we can join.intel1

Volunteer computing seems to be an ideal platform for organmizations who cannot afford the huge costs involved in purchasing and maintaining complex systems. The cloud has indeed made the world into a smaller place, a global village of sorts.Kudos to intel

India..beneath the mystery..beyond the history...

The trip to mysore with my college friends was an experience of a lifeime. It gave me an opportunity to study and find out about India's past filled with rich heritage and culture.

When i first visited the palace of the maharaja's of mysore as a kid i was not in a position to understand what such imposing structures as the palace made in the history of india.

India turns 62...

At the stroke of midnight 62 years ago,India obtained independence from the british raj after being ruled and looted of its entire wealth. Before the british invaded and took control over india in the 1800's it was the richest country in the world with a GDP higher than that of the present United states. It took more than 55 years for india to become a formidable economic superpower in the present world league competing with China and its contemporaries.

Back to fedora once again

After tinkering for a long time with windows vista to check out its much touted security features,I switched back to Fedora-11  today which happens to be the latest avatar of the distro.Installation was fast and snappy. There are many things which i found common with both linux and vista like the UAC prompt and ASLR implementation at lower levels. Not that i hate it,but i was done with the memory hogging OS for quite some time.I never experienced a BSOD before, but when i got one due to a faulty ACPI driver which followed the death of my HDD i thought that it was enough.

Screenshot

It took some time to figure out on how to use proprietary software codecs and get all kinds of formats to work but finally i had done it.I have also been tinkering with the Bash command prompt which  i am very found out in linux based systems .

Some exciting artwork discussions is going on the fedora ambassador's mailing  list including more effective ways of marketing the product.Due to the various DOS attacks taking place over the internet i assumed it was best for me to switch back to the very secure linux system

With the independence day coming up i feel the launch of fedora 11 has truly lived up to its tag line Freedom +Infinty=fedora

Finally relief from the heavens!

After 4 months of Intense heat and Sunshine, the monsoon has finally kicked in with full force!.Just seeing the rain bearing clouds above is a rejuvenating factor for all of us.The immense heat waves have made  day to day work including travelling a big nightmare adding to the frequent power cuts due to water shortage in the Dams.

With borewells drying up and tap water on alternate days, we had to for the first time buy a tanker full of water for our needs! But hopefully this should improve by the month end.Expecting rainfall in the lots.I still remember making paper boats and playing in the water with my brother when we were kids,I hope that we could have such a good time again :) .

Image128

I joined my brother last time to try out rain water harvesting to rejuvenate my borwell, and sure enough it worked well and water began to fill in again. This time we are well prepared before hand, using simple ingenious method of collecting excess rainwater on the roof top and allowing it to pass through a pipe sent inside the borewell .The monsoon is below expectations this time, hugely deficit across the country. But i will enjoy the rainfall even if it means for a less amount of time!

Its always "whats the next step?"

Growing up and studying in such a competitive environment has its own pro's and cons. When there was no recession it was all about IT and Technology,In the initial days of my graduation IT was booming with high paying jobs with all perks we expect.Unfortunatley my last days of school have been full of apprehensions about my future.Competing with millions of aspiring students all around has always being taken into consideration apart from pressure and excitment when planning for the future course of action

Interning at ogilvy has thrown some light on what other avenues I can explore and build my career path in a different manner which will hopefully end in a constructive manner. Its always whats the next step....

My foundness for train journeys....

Train journies always start with a fight with my twin brother for the window seat when we were kids, even now when both of us travel together, its mostly like fisrt come first serve for us to catch a glimpse of the lovely country side which rushes through while passing from one city to another.Whenever i used to go to bangalore,it was a very memorable experience for me.Not only could i see beautiful valleys and grape plantations all along, but also the large curves at which i can see the whole length of the train!.

Sipping coffee in the morning while experiencing something beautiful as this always makes me feel great. So i could not miss a chance when BBC world wanted to cover india's election using a  fully sefl sufficient train. It was a novel idea for the BBC to get a feel of the real india,by travelling in the common man's transport.Although i have still not travelled  in the high speed trains like shatabdi or rajdhani,i would still cherish to travel in them some time

Books,Books and more Books!

After a long time i got a second chance to go to the famous blossoms book house in church street today.
Whenever i visit any book house,i usually try not to bring loads of books at a time, but the sheer number of sections the book house has makes me to spend lots of money on buying them.
Since it is the only place i can get them for a good bargain and at a second hand price,i usually end up buying the wholle works of a particular author.Blossom_BookShop_inside
Last time when i visited,i spent my time there through the whole afternoon through the rows on figuring out which ones i could buy for a reasonalble price.
To my luck i got the whole series of "Alias" in 7 parts which also happens to be my favourite telivison shows of all time apart from the oprah show.
Kenfollet's fictional  work caught my eyes this time and i ended up buying his entire works for a rockbottom price. For book lovers in bangalore church street is the mecca to get all the buks that you want!

Spending weekends alone for the first time

The weekend seems to be long and boring…..For the first time there was no one to celebrate my birthday with,It seemed like i was miles apart from my friends and family. But being born on a day like July 4th amuses me a bit  .Reading books during weekends helps me  to get over the experience of being in another place, but as the saying goes a good book is a best friend!

KenFollett's the third twin seems to be like a good page turner!

Missing my friends!

Its been two weeks since i was out of my native place.I sort of got adjusted to the new environment and new people with different mindsets,But i still cherish my college days where i could mingle with loads of  people.I have always been a fan of orkut and facebook, not only are they helping me to keep in touch with my family and friends but they also help me to share pictures, videos and scraps.

DSC01409

I am not able to have a constant touch with anyof them, but ocassionally ,I do get to know about their status and what they are up to through orkut. Our college community is buzzing with loads of posts after we left it 2 months ago. Thanks to the rise of social networking i feel like being next to my friends when i get scraps or pictures from them. When some of us went to pakal a beautiful tourist spot near to our college for a change,we were able to share with other people who are not familiar with the native place of mine,or are curious to know about some wonderful places here

DSC01499

.Orkut is helping me in many ways though-I can now share blogs  and join communities which i am fond of like the SuSE and some bollywood film communities. Its a nice place to share our thoughts and exchange our views!

Interning at Ogilvy and Mather India

Being a part of India's IT industry is a dream for any budding tech graduate as me.I  wanted to get an experience of the tech world as it was,and take up and work on some core areas in which i was interested a lot.Though i could not make it to any of the companies due to some unavoidable circumstances,I got an exciting opportunity to work for Ogilvy and mather, one the most respected PR  firms we have known

.Life at Ogilvy is both fun and exciting. The  Ogilvy and Lenovo hub at bagamane tech park in Bangalore provided the  experiences which i have dreamed of .

This internship program not only provided me the exposure required to be a part of a large organization, but also improve my socializing  mechanisms with other people from various backgrounds.

The creative stuff made at ogilvy is truly amazing and of high quality.

I feel lucky to be part of such a team which not only creates but also provides new and interesting concepts for ads regarding lenovo and IBM.

Things which have influenced me

Il be sharing a few things which have made a huge influence on me in one way or the other

READING BOOKS -The harrpotter mania

In the beginning when the potter phenomenon was being discussed online and on televison,i had no clue that why would people love to read a story  about an orphaned boy which also includes wizards and spells.

I still did not have the habit of reading books, Later during my 10th grade  I was introduced the word of harrpotter by my grandmother. She brought those books hoping that i would inculcate good habits  like reading, and shun other activities like playing computer games which were not so constructive according to her.

It took a week or two before I could understand the plot of the first book, two or three times a week I used to read the complete book not knowing the flow of the story. But after I had gone through the 3rd book The prisoner of azkaban,My interest of reading the series increased exponentially,i mention this coz from that day till I completed reading the final installment  it was some sort of a chore  for me to go through the book perhaps countless number of times.

Even today 7  years after I started reading the series,I still read them with the same enthusiasm and excitement as I had on the first day.The magic cannot be explained by pen, but it is something that a pottermaniac like me and others all over the world  enjoy and cherish

Not only it has been an impetus in my book reading habit, but also gave me a few morals regrading life and decisions we take in it.

J.K rownling's life before the publishing of the potter series moved me,when I got to know about the way in which she crossed several major obstacles regarding her personal life and the life that she adored from her childhood(writing books).

Thanks to J.K rowling and my granny,I have become a bookworm eversince, and some of my best friends happen to be books!

Life as a Netizen

By the time i joined graduation, visiting the local internet cafe had become a habit for me,i wanted to grab as much knowledge as i could.Being a computer science graduate i was intrested in the technical know -how about various technologies which made everyday computing more fun and easy.

As my quest for knowledge grew,so did my intrest in reading and exploring emerging technologies in some key areas like microprocessors, linux, information security and operating systems.

It was during these initial days that i started to frequently participate in the compaq user forums seven years ago.At that  time known as the "compaq community" ,which was provided as a support link in my compaq desktop.Once i was there i had a chance to broaden my knowledge about computers and help other users out when i could.

The sudden rise of social networking sites made more number of people to interact with each other in their very own user- initiated communites within orkut , which were dedicated to a particular topic or product.

When i brought a new lenovo desktop 3 years ago, naturally i joined the lenovo community there as well and became a bit of a serious player, logging in many times a day and helping out as many people as i could.

Online collaboration could never  get easier than this!

The best of the chorus group

During our schooling,we were trained to sing chorus songs in many languages like english, hindi, bengali, assamese and telugu. This is one of those songs which i would like to share with the  blogging community, since it happens to be one of my favourites :)

Song one:

Thank you for giving me this morning

Thank you for everyday thats new

Thank you that i can know my worries, can be cost on you!

Thank you for all my friends and brothers,Thankyou for all the men that live

Thankyou for even greatest enemies so i can forgive!

Thank you god your love is boundless,Thankyou that i am full of you

Thankyou for music,light and gladness

Thankfull as i do.....

[caption id="attachment_116" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Chorus of TTHS"]Chorus of TTHS[/caption]

There was another song which was adapted as our school song, since it exactly fits into our school moto!

Song two (School song)

Also famously known  as the VITAI LAMPADA ("They Pass On The Torch of Life"),through out canada and Great britain, this song was written by Sir Henry Newbolt during the late eighteen hundreds.

There's a breathless hush in the Close to-night --

Ten to make and the match to win --

A bumping pitch and a blinding light,
An hour to play and the last man in.
And it's not for the sake of a ribboned coat,
Or the selfish hope of a season's fame,
But his Captain's hand on his shoulder smote --
'Play up! play up! and play the game!'

This is the word that year by year,
While in her place the School is set,
Every one of her sons must hear,
And none that hears it dare forget.
This they all with a joyful mind
Bear through life like a torch in flame,
And falling fling to the host behind --
'Play up! play up! and play the game!'

I AM A PC!

Microsoft's "I am  a pc!" marketing campaign  was a different approach it made to rival apple's constant noises  about windows vista and the "pc world".I joined the campaign by registering at www.imapc.lifewithoutwalls.com.

The approach of this campaign was simple, give  a unique name to your pc and explain in a line or so about why we people would love to use a "PC"

I joined this campaign out of curiosity and never imagined that  i would be on windows.com,but there I was! on times square and microsoft.com

Its a clever campaign which microsoft is showing to its rivals, that it's still a formidable force to reckon with in the industry

Well still though,I would correct my stand and say i am a  Linux! :)

Annual schoolday celebrations

The annual school day of my school provided a platform for us all to show of our talent in dance, music, and drama.schoolday1

Practise sessions started two weeks before, which gave us enough time to get familiarized with what we are about to do.Naturally as time passed by the surrounding enui of our daily class  schedule was lost!.It was fun and frolic!

Just before a week or two of the actual school day, students were asked to give out their names who would love to partiticipate in the "cultural fest" as i can call itchorus.I was a part of the chorus group from my second grade onwards,we used to sing patriotic songs in various languages everyday.I still remember most of the songs by heart coz our school's  management ensured that students participated in more numbers in these activities.

What i do remember is most of our school day celebrations took place  at the REC(regional engineering college) auditorium now National Institute of technology,it was a festive atmosphere on D-day!

For all the hardwork we made to ensure that everything was sucessfull we were awarded holidays which was something like an icing on the cake!

My memorable schooling days

School is the first place i would always cherish to remember! Not only has it provided the ways and means in which i can start learning but also provide an interactive and friendly environment with my teachers and faculty.Ifeel lucky to be an  alumini of TTHS(tiny tots high school).

My headmistress premalatha pradhan had a major role to play in  shaping my knowledge in terms of communication skills and extra curicular activities.Giving  equal importance to them along with studies helped me to cope with the ever changing world of ours.I would like to entirely show my gratitude towards her for providing a solid foundation to my career and studies.

It was a very different time in my schooling days when compared to the others! The faculty we had were more like family members rather than a just a teaching authority, and this kind of an environment was made by my headmistress. What happened as a result was that we were always happy to go  out to school and merrily enjoy it as much as we could!

[caption id="attachment_38" align="alignright" width="128" caption="school logo"]school logo[/caption]

My school logo has an inner meaning,That a child should always be smiling and happy when he comes to this temple of knowledge. The moto of my school also has a resounding message to its student "play up play up and play the game!" which meant that life is a game and we must always learn to take it as a sport and play it well!

more memories of my school to come very soon....
